Scoring & Results
No pass, no fail — just a standardised score. Here's how the dMAT is graded, reported, and used by universities.
There is no passing or failing mark
The dMAT is an aptitude assessment, not an entrance exam. Your raw answers are converted into standardised scores so results stay comparable across different dates and question sets. A low score does not disqualify you — universities weigh it alongside everything else in your file.
Two score scales
Percentile Rank
Your standing against the entire global pool of test-takers.
- A rank of 70 means you scored at or above 70% of all candidates
- Puts you in the top 30% of the applicant pool
- Competitive programmes may set a percentile cut-off
Standardised dMAT Score
A statistically calibrated score on a 0–200 scale.
- The average score is fixed at 100
- Standard deviation is 30 — about 68% score between 70 and 130
- 130 is one SD above average — strong aptitude
The score distribution
Most candidates cluster around the mean of 100. Here's how the 0–200 scale spreads out.
What a score signals
Scored in two parts
The Core Module and General Academic Module are scored separately, so universities can see whether your strength is abstract reasoning or applied academic skill.
Certificate & APS integration
Results are published on the secure g.a.s.t. portal, then flow into your APS certificate.
Results published
Via the g.a.s.t. test-takers' portal (12 Oct 2026 for this cycle).
Certificate issued
Shows Core score, GAM score and percentile rank.
Added to APS
Your scores are recorded on your final APS certificate.
Sent to universities
One consolidated document carries everything to Germany.
Valid indefinitely
Your dMAT certificate has no expiry — no need to retake it for future application cycles.
Disputing a result
You can appeal via the Examination Board — €30 for one module or €60 for both. The fee is refunded only if your grade is adjusted.
How universities use it
Each university decides how heavily to weigh the dMAT — some set percentile cut-offs, others balance it against GPA, SOP, LORs and language scores.
Aiming for a competitive score?
We build your preparation around the score bands universities look for — and handle your registration and APS end to end.
